Walking
The area has walking for everyone,
ranging from strolls along gentle limestone dales with their crystal clear rivers to the unique gritstone 'edges' with their wonderful views and
expeditions onto forbidding high moorland. Whatever you choose it's a great place to be!
There's an excellent range of footpaths from the door of Nesfield Cottage and advice as to the best walks in the area. Maps and weather info is also available and, if you'd like to leave your car at home, we can arrange pick-ups from the local bus or train station (Chesterfield or Dronfield). A regular bus service picks up from the end of our lane to transport you into the heart of the Peak District.
Cycling
The Peak District is a well-known favourite for cyclists of all kinds. The diverse terrain provides unique challenges and there's a wealth of bridleways and cycling routes around Nesfield Cottage which offer plenty of opportunities for on and off-road bikers of all abilities.
Secure bike storage is provided as well as advice on cycle maintenance and adjustment and J E James bike shop is less than 3 miles away for spares and repairs.
Golf
There are a number of excellent golf courses in the Chesterfield area, a map with all the local courses and details of playing fees, locations etc, can be found here
Fishing
There are many places to fish in the local area including Ladybower reservoir which offers day ticket trout fishing with boat hire at very reasonable prices. There is also coarse fishing available, Barlow lakes being particularly good with coarse and carp specialist lakes in addition to three trout lakes all bookable on day tickets
Climbing and scrambling
The Peak district has some excellent climbing and scrambling areas to explore either on your own or with Tom on one of his guided tours. Some interesting walks can be found here.
